Tina’s Story

Hi  there, My name is Tina I and have always been active since I can remember, I joined all the sports teams when I was in elementary school and competitively swam throughout high school. I didn’t start running till I was in University and had to lose the good old “freshmen 15” that I gain in the first semester.

Once I moved to Edmonton and stared dating Ivan in 2007 I started running more frequently stopping in the winter months but always starting back up in the summer.

In winter 2008 my mother passed away suddenly and my world was turned upside-down, the next three years were the worst of my life. I left Edmonton and everything that came with it ( Ivan, my awesome job and all my friends) to move back to Ontario to take care of my dad. I did make a stronger connection with my family but I was not happy. So one day I went for a run , at first just for a few minutes but every time I went out it got easier and I was able to run longer. Running allowed me to deal with my grief and my unhappiness. In 2010 I had moved back to Edmonton, got a great job rekindled with Ivan – life was looking good again.

My First Race

My girlfriend Sarah asked if I wanted to run a 5 mile race with her in October 2011. Of course I said yes. I trained pretty consistently thru out the summer but I never ran that far in my entire life and it was a challenge I was eager to accept. Race day came and I was determined to finish it I had to limp across the finish line.  Sarah and I ran together motivating each other along the way and finished with a time of 1:06. We were ecstatic! We couldn’t believe we ran that far! After that day I was struck with running fever.

It wasn’t until I ran the 5k Resolution run in January 2012 with Jenny that I became obsessed with racing. I though if I could run that far I can probably run 10k a and I did! I ran the St.Patrick’s 10k with Jenny and Ivan by my side.

Then I though if I could run 10k I could do a half marathon right?  In April 29th 2012 I ran my first Half Marathon  in 2:49

Since then I have been a racing feen! Completing a race every month since I started back in October 2011. Races keep me motivated to run and stay in shape. I don’t follow a diet or a training plan, I try to run at least 4-5 times a week which can be challenging working two jobs. But I do make time to reward myself with a slice of pie or something sweet

I followed you back from a like you made on my post – i found this site, and really did laugh because i also tend to equate exercise to food. Its a cool site, and a nice profile here – thanks for bringing a little bit of light to a dark swedish evening!
