2013 Commitments

I’m not one to make resolutions cause they never workout for me. So this year I decided to make commitments! I got the idea from Commitmentday.com.

Here goes, I commit to:

– Getting a Fitness Assessment.

I have a free Fitness Assessment with a personal trainer at World Health Club that I haven’t used yet. This would be a great way to measure my improvement over the next year.

– Trying Crossfit at least once

As you know, Jenny and I are huge fans of Spartan Races and would love to try a Super Spartan this year and crossfit would get me ready for that.

– Sweating more

I’m not a sweater, I am more of a glistener :) Which makes me think I’m not pushing myself as hard as I possibly can. So this year I’m going to change that!

– Running 25k for fun

Somedays I feel like the energizer bunny and I can run forever, the farthest I have ever ran was 21k and I would love to see how far I can really go.

– Reconnecting with Family members

Ever since my Mother died I haven’t really stayed in touch with a lot of relatives. This year I going to change that by sending out cards and making phone calls if I have too!

– Attending different events

Edmonton offers so many free events on a daily basis, I would love to get out there and explore the City and it’s different communities.

– Dressing Better

The ladies I work with are glamazons! They could all be models, I feel so frumpy when I stand next to them not to mention really short.  I’m going to invest in some good work clothes and heels this year!

– Drinking More Tea

I am a coffee whore, I need a latte first thing in the morning or I can’t function. It is quite expensive and really bad for my teeth. So I’m going to make the switch to tea!

– Learning German

I have always wanted to learn german, but never got around to it. Any readers out there what to help me? We can be penpals/emailpals :)

    I am committed to just being happy and healthy : ) I would love to drop 15 lbs and I did it this past year but very stupidly so the goal is to slowly drop to my happy weight and stay there for good.

      Thanks for sharing! I’ve been trying to drop 10 pounds for the last three years and have given up. I’m just happy to be healthy :)

    german isn’t hard to grasp! i took three semesters in college and four years in high school, and the hardest part for me was speaking without an american accent. p.s. love the infographic in this post

        Have you done one before? If so, what tips do you have. I’m going to be starting on an upper body workout using strength ropes, pullup bar, etc. Any advice would be great.

        Yes! Tina and I did the spartan sprint in Calgary last year. It was really fun but I wish I had worked more on my cardio. I think pylometric training is your best way to go! The challenges are pretty basic and someone in reasonable shape can do them, others are based on luck and whether or not the mud has caked onto the walls in funny ways. But if u fail the challenge you must do 20-25 burpees to move on. My biggest thing was the recovery, after going up and down hills I couldn’t catch my breath to actually run or jog the 1km to the next challenge, I walked a lot. I am going to admit, the night before I did drink half a bottle of rye, ran home from the train station and arrived home at 230am. Woke up at 6am and drove 3 hours to Calgary… It was 31degrees.. So hungover, dehydrated and tired I still made it to the end! If I can, anyone can! ;) ps. You can sign up for the work out on demand emails on the spartan website. You should incorporate some of those exercises into your routines=)

    Wow! That’s quite a list!

    I, too, dislike resolutions. I wrote down some “intentions” this year because the term will remind me to think of them every day, as opposed to what happens when my brain hears “resolution” and thinks, “a goal one sets for a new year, to be accomplished or forgotten between January 1st and 7th.”

    “Commitments” sounds like a good way to look at it, too!

    Two long term commitments: quit cigarettes (4 days success, so far and no unbearable discomfort) and run a marathon one year from now. Intermediate steps: C25K training plan (tomorrow completes Week 1), and just registered for my first 5K run, Bayou City Classic, Houston, March 9. If I keep making strides, life will rise up to meet me!

    ohhh I love this!! Running a 25k for fun?? You go girl! I will be running my first half in a month….Can’t wait! The idea of commitments is so much better than a resolution…as most people just give up the second they “break it”! Can’t wait to read more of your posts! Happy 2013. and p.s. sweating gives much better results than glistening ;)….you got it!

    Hey, fellow coffee whore (as I sit here drinking my second cup of the morning)! I was also thinking about drinking more tea…specifically green tea. For me, I feel that drinking hot tea will be more satisfying, but I’m not sure what to use to sweeten it. I would like to cut down on sugar intake, too. I know nothing about tea, so if anyone has any suggestions on what flavors or brands are the tastiest, I would appreciate the feedback! LOL!! I think your commitment list looks great!! I’m sure you’re gonna rock 2013!!

      I usually use stevia or honey to sweeten up my tea :) I’m a big fan of chai teas I find there more on the sweeter side. If you have a teaopia near you pick up some banana mudslide! It’s delicious :) I have tons of recommendations so ask away!

        Oooh, Banana mudslide??? I wonder if that can be bought online? I don’t think we have a teaopia here, but I’ve never looked for one, either. Do you drink all of your teas hot? I think I’m going to have to invest in some stevia. I always look at it, but never buy it. I will certainly be touching base with you with questions, Lady! Thanks, Tina!

        I just checked and Teaopia doesn’t have mudslide anymore!! Aaa but Davids Tea has tons of teas that are just as delicious and you can purchase online: http://www.davidstea.com/rooibos-en I drink all my teas hot :)

        OOh, thanks for the info! I just made a batch of cold green tea, about a quart I think it was. I ended up using a half cup of sugar since I have to wait till pay day to get stevia. But I discovered that I like drinking that better cold than hot. I’ll be checking out that website!

    I love your resolutions, especially “drink more tea”. I don’t think I could ever achieve that, as I’m a complete tea Jenny already, and we’re already starting to run out in my house after the New Year break. I like darljeeling, assam or Earl Grey, but nothing beats Scottish Blend with lashings of milk.
